Review: Flash of Genius
My husband and I are huge fans of true stories. This movie is about how Ford stole the idea for the intermittent windshield wipers from an engineer, Robert Kearns. He had thought of the idea for the intermittent wipers from an unfortunate incident on his wedding day that rendered him blind in his left eye. He was opening a champagne bottle and the cork hit his eye. From this moment on, he was obsessed with how his eye worked. Whenever it rained he would have trouble seeing because the windshield wipers would just move continuously and that made it harder for him to see.
When Kearns found out that his idea was stolen, he took Ford to court. It took him more than a decade to finally prove that those designs were his. This battle ruined his already shaky relationship with his wife and children. One of his sons helped him during the trial because he wanted to defend himself in court.
It’s just a heartbreaking story because so many years were wasted because a large corporation thought that they could push the working man around. It wasn’t right and things like this probably happen more often than we think. It’s a movie everyone should see especially for those who have new ideas and want to create something new.
