Review: The OA

I don’t remember when this happened but it must have been just recently. It was probably in the past year that a bunch of Netflix original shows started showing up in large numbers. There is a show called The OA. It is one of those shows that seems like it could be entered into the Sundance Film Festival. So far there is only 1 season and I hope there’s going to be a second. One thing that caught my attention was that Brit Marling created, produced and starred in it, among others. Season 1 only had 8 episodes and it was one of those things that could stand on its own. There doesn’t need to be a second season.

The show starts with a girl jumping off a bridge into a large body of water. She survives the fall and is admitted into a hospital. There is a mystery about this girl and no one knows who it is until someone recognizes her from the news. She is the girl who had been reported missing 7 years ago. The entire show revolves around her disappearance and the events that follow.

I don’t want to say too much because it is a very interesting and thought provoking show. It makes you think about your own life and those around you. The characters chosen in the show are those people can really relate to or have known in real life. It is a story of perseverance, courage, trust and love. I was reading the interviews they had with the actors and writers and this show was meant to make you question the validity of the facts presented to you in the show. Is she telling the truth? Did that really happen to her? The show is also a bit weird but what show isn’t nowadays.

If you haven’t seen this show, you should! I highly recommend it.

*Note: Based on a scale from 1 to 10. 1 being the worst and 10 being the best you could get in a category.
