[There will be SPOILERS!]

I was really disappointed with the first movie because, well, it had Kristen Stewart in it. She can’t act. She really can’t. She is the same in every movie. There is no difference to her characters. I was reading a review somewhere and someone mentioned that she was like a vampire (referring to Twilight. there was a scene in the forest where people hallucinate and feel excruciating pain. it was like she was turning in a vampire.) in a Snow White movie. So when this movie trailer came out and she wasn’t in it, I had high hopes that this movie would be so much better. My fiance and I really enjoyed this film. It was full of action and fantastic CGI. Acting was great, especially Charlize Theron. She was phenomenal as the evil queen, Ravenna.

Coming in to this movie, I hadn’t read any reviews or read the summary. I had no idea what it was going to be about. I thought it was a nice touch when they told the story from the Hunstman’s perspective. It was interesting to see how he became a huntsman and how there were more than one of them in existence. The story behind how they became huntsmen is very sad. Freya’s husband had been tricked, by Ravenna, into killing their baby. This made Freya very angry and then ends up killing her husband. Freya leaves her home and kidnaps children from various villages in hopes of turning them into warriors for her.

You can really see how evil the evil queen can really be. Ravenna basically just thinks about herself and she feels no remorse for what she has done. She has no capacity for compassion and she feels no love for anyone. You really feel for Freya even though she has turned evil too.

This movie is based on Hans Christian Anderson’s Snow Queen and the Brothers Grimm’s Snow White. It is interesting how they blended these two stories together. I hadn’t read the the Snow Queen until recently and to be honest, I really liked the story. I think I would have liked more of the Snow Queen story to show in the movie. Actually, I would have liked them to make a Snow Queen movie.

So that’s pretty much for this review.

Audience: PG-13
