The New Year
I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t had the chance to reflect on last year. I had to work some of New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. That was the first time I was not with my family when the clock struck 12. It was a weird feeling being away from family because it’s always been tradition to watch the ball drop while struggling to keep awake. We’d stay glued to the TV as they start counting down and afterwards, my dad would start banging a pan throughout the entire house to ward off evil spirits. It’s also tradition for us to carry coins in our pockets for prosperity in the new year. It’s a Filipino tradition. And of course, jumping. We always jumped whenever the new year started. I mean I know that this is only for children (children jump as high as they can so they will grow nice and tall), but we do it anyway 😛
This last year was as memorable as every year. I learned a lot about love and life. I learned a lot about myself and what I really wanted from life. There are things I wished I could relive and others I wish I could do over but ultimately though, I have no regrets. It’s like they say, everything happens for a reason. Everything that has happened up to this point has shaped and molded me into the person I have become. You know how they say to love yourself? Sometimes people think of this as no brainer, even myself. But when you really think about it, there are things that people don’t like about themselves…be it acne, a small butt, no curves, not good at math….the list can go on. So really…it’s a really difficult thing to do. We just have to accept what’s there and work with what we’ve got.
Also this year I have figured out a plan for my life and where I want it to go. It’s a vague plan but it’ll do for the time being. Things that have seemed so important in the past have just been bumped down in my priorities list. But who knows…priorities always change. Life’s funny like that. I just hope that this year will bring me new “adventures.”
